Achieving CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA) Status

To become a CCA, applicants must meet the Cyber AB requirements, including eligibility criteria, registration, and background checks, as defined in the CCA Blueprint.  A CCA must hold an active Certified CMMC Professional (CCP) certification.  responsible for the assessment, examination, verification, and review of an organization’s compliance with CMMC standards up to Level 2. Although CCPs participate in Level 2 assessments, they can only verify Level 1 practices and do not have authority to make final determinations, which are reserved for Certified CMMC Assessors (CCA) or Lead CCAs. CCPs may work for a C3PAO (CMMC Third-Party Assessor Organization) or independently. CCP certification is a prerequisite for advancing to CMMC Certified Assessor (CCA), offering a valuable credential that reflects training in CMMC requirements for defense suppliers.  To become a CCP, a candidate needs to:

Baseline Certification Requirement

Candidates must hold a baseline certification in cybersecurity aligned with the Intermediate or Advanced Proficiency Level for the Cybersecurity Workforce 612 pathway, per DoD Manual 8140.3. Accepted certifications include:
  • Intermediate Certifications: (ISC)² CGRC/CAP, CompTIA CASP+, Cloud+, PenTest+, Security+, or GIAC GSEC.
  • Advanced Certifications: ISACA CISM or CISA, CISSP (and specializations), GIAC GSLC or GSNA, and more.

Cyber AB Registration and Exam Fees:

A CCA candidate is expected to be a member of the CMMC Ecosystem in good standing. The candidate must pay a $50 registration fee to apply for CCA membership. Deltamine is not responsible for this registration step. Refer to the Cyber AB website for official requirements, as requirements may change.

Background Investigation Requirements:

A CCP candidate must obtain or have a Tier 3 investigation determination or equivalent conducted by DMCA, or Possess a NAC (National Agency Check) or other DoD accepted clearance. Please note that "non-eligible" candidates can apply under the same Tier 3 Background Investigation process as U.S. persons.
